Not usually a stickler: language will do what language will do.
However, "literally," "ignorant" and "ironic" used "incorrectly," as well as, overuse of scare quotes, do jangle my nerves a bit.

I really don’t see a problem with “can I get” I don’t know if I say it or not.
Waiter “how’s things, what can I get ye”
Me “heya, can I get the....... cheers thanks”
Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Always remember, your own beloved pet phrases were once murder to the ears of some old codger.
That said:
Back in the day There was this girl around the way She liked my home-piece MCA He said he would not give her play I asked him, "Please?" – he said, "You may." Her pants were tight and that's ok If she would dance, I would DJ We took a walk down to the bay
I hope she'll say "Hey, me and you should hit the hay!" I asked her out, she said "No way!" I should've probably guessed her gay So I broke North with no delay I heard she moved real far away That was two years ago this May I seen her just the other day Jockin' Mike D. to my dismay

The word physicality has reared it's ugly head in recent years. So fucking pretentious and it's everywhere. Sticking ality on the end of any words is irritating too. I once read a psychiatrist's report which said "No suicidality, no homicidality"......CUNT.
Referring to white people as Caucasians is another pretentious word that has crept into the cunts' vocabulary from America.

Nail on head. I wonder if all this is a directive from management (sky, bbc etc) and uts caught on or just some individual who got the ball rolling thinking he was being clever.
An as you rightly szy:

A lot of the change in language is part of the "Americanisation" of our culture which has been a by-product of the internet / interconnected world since the 90's and global mass media where 90% of movie and TV content is from the USA. Awesome ain't it ? :-(

I take it your a big fan then of commentators on major sporting events who use phrases like, 'St Andrew's is a wonderful golf course', 'that was a great tennis shot' and 'there's a good spirit at the football club at the moment'.
As you said, yes I fucking know what sport I'm watching. Not for a minute do I think St Andrew's is a grand prix circuit, an Andy Murray drop shot is a cover drive or that West ham are a croquet club.
Cunts.

Putting the word 'absolutely' in the wrong place. Lot of it creeping in lately.
e.g.
"We'll absolutely do that for you" Instead of "We'll do that for you, absolutely"!"

I've lived in Ireland for the past 10 years now and there are two phrases in particular that wind me up:
1. Plug out - "Can you plug out the toaster".
2. Amn't - Am not I. "I'm right, amn't I?"
Not sure why they anger me so much but they do.

" i've told you a million times do not exaggerate"
"Let me run this by/past you"
Single words ahem like "cool" and "man" especially when spoken by the older generation

I get annoyed by simpletons who misuse the word 'actually'. As an example:
"We ought to ban the word 'like'. As the youth (or anybody under 30) can't actually use the word in its proper context"
What a fucking thicko.
